Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality is one of the three municipalities situated within the uThukela District in the KwaZulu-Natal province. It was established by the amalgamation of the Imbabazane and uMtshezi Local Municipalities in August 2016.
The municipality constitutes a third of the district and the N3 National Road traverses the municipality. The majority of the municipality’s population is concentrated in urban and farming areas, but there are a few patches of high-density settlements within the informal areas. The municipality boasts well-established industrial, commercial and residential areas, as well as rich agricultural farmlands.
The Constitution and Municipal Structures Act requires that every Council elects a Chairperson, who is called The Speaker.
The Corporate Services Department is responsible for providing effective and efficient high standard administration and support.
The goal of the Directorate of Development Planning and Local Economic Development is to provide strategic direction to the
municipality.
The Department of Finance is responsible for providing efficient and effective financial administration of the Municipal finances.
The Public Works & Basic Services Department aspires to be a value-adding department in providing basic service delivery.
Community Services aims to provide effective, efficient and sustainable social and community services, and to place Batho Pele Principles at the centre of service delivery.
A special visit to the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality by the Acting Premier of the KwaZulu Natal Province, MEC Nomsa Dube who is the MEC for Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the province.
